Antiga e nobre família italiana, originária de Gênova, de virtude clara e ancestral, que se espalhou pelo mundo ao longo dos séculos. Originalmente conhecido como Morandi, quando em 1528 passou a fazer parte do hotel De Grilli (= estrutura organizacional na qual se uniram várias famílias ligadas por sangue ou por um interesse comum) já estava dividido em vários ramos, alguns dos quais ao longo do tempo sofreram alterações em o sobrenome, incluindo as formas Corandi, Corando e Corande. Este já foi um fenômeno muito frequente, antes da cristalização e institucionalização do registro. Em todo caso, é lembrado desde 1170, quando passou a fazer parte do Conselho de Estado da República de Gênova. Giacomo ocupou no século XIV o cargo de conselheiro de guerra, capitão e companheiro soldado do Almirante Tommaso de 'Franchi Vignoso, na recompra da ilha de Scio.
