Antica ed assai nobile nobile famiglia di Orvieto, di origine francese, detta Corbara, della Corbara o, più anticamente, Montemarte, in virtù del castello dagli stessi posseduto, sul quale godevano del titolo comitale, propagatasi, nel corso dei secoli, in diverse regioni d'Italia. Nel 1589, tal famiglia, ebbe la Signoria della città di Corbara, già loro feudo, sin dal tardo XIII secolo. In ogni modo, i membri della famiglia parteciparono sempre attivamente alla vita socio-politica orvietana; Francesco Corbari documentò ampiamente gli avvenimenti locali, negli anni dal 1333 al 1400. Inoltre, in ogni epoca, tal casato sempre riuscì a distinguersi, grazie agli elevati personaggi, a cui diede i natali. Tra questi, senza nulla levar al valore degli omessi, ricordiamo: Pietro, creato Antipapa il 17 gennaio 1328; beata Angiolina, figlia del Conte Jacopo, riformatrice del Terz'ordine, vivente nel XV secolo; Conte Lionello, capitano di una compagnia di cinquanta cavalli, nel XVI secolo; Valerio, Governatore
