Die Ursprünge dieser Familie sind sehr alt und sehr edel und werden traditionell als Begründer des römischen Tributs Marco Valerio Corvino angesehen. Seine Nachkommen haben sich in Forlì niedergelassen, wo wir 1000 Prediolio finden, eine Appiolano-Zählung von Appiola. Die Grafschaft Appiola war immer von diesem Haus C., und als Berichte über dieses Land werden sie von alten Schriftstellern und in Grabtafeln in verschiedenen Kirchen in Venedig erinnert; dafür nahmen sie den Namen Appiolano an. Fulgerio, sein Sohn, war Meilen. Ein Benciverse, der 1095 von ihm abstammt, nahm am Kreuzzug teil und starb dort herrlich. In Forlì gehörte es zu den edelsten Familien, so dass die Ordelaffi der Stadt es ergriffen, zuerst alle gegen sie gerichteten Welfen vertrieben, und unter diesen stammte Raniero mit seinen Kindern vom Grafen Giovanni del Conte und Miles Fulgerio vom Grafen Appiolano von Appiola ab die gingen, um ihre Nachkommen in verschiedenen Städten Italiens zu etablieren.
