On trouve le nom de cette maison diversement écrit Courcelles et Corcelles. Grande chevalerie d'Auvergne, relatée depuis Géraud et Geoffroy cités dans une charte de 1070. Alliée aux Dauphins d'Auvergne, aux de Rochefort-d'Aurouse, aux d'Aurillac, aus d'Alègre et à plusieurs illustres maisons. Gausbert de Breuil, est au nombre en 1148 des bienfaiteurs du monastère de Comps (alias La Vaudieu). Robert est dit chanoine-comte de Brioude (1233) et abbé de St-Germain-Lembron (1235). Un bailli d'Auvergne (1238); un chambellan du roi Charles VI; Philippe, grand échanson de France (1421). La terre du Breuil fut confisquée en 1462, par Jean duc de Berry et d'Auvergne à Antoine-Louis seigneur du Breuil, pour avoir enlevé à main armée une riche et jolie dame hollandaise se rendant, avec son mari, en pélégrinage à N.-D. du Puy. Éteinte en 1519, dans la maison de la Salle.
