Antichissimo casato, di origine sassarese, risalente al XIII secolo, appartenente alla nobiltà minore, la quale, nel 1470, ottenne il riconoscimento della Generosità con un Barisone e che fu ammessa allo stamento militare, nel 1678, durante il parlamento Las Navas. Un cospicuo ramo della famiglia, in tempi assai remoti, si trasferì in Borutta, luogo dal quale essa, poi, si diramò e fiorì in altre ville del Meilogu. Pietro Corda venne dichiarato Cavaliere Ereditario, il 26 marzo 1738, Nobile e don, il 10 dicembre 1739, a petizione del figlio Francesco, nato in Borutta, per sé e per i suoi discendenti maschi e femmine, in nome del di lui padre già morto come se vivente. Con R. Patente del 26 marzo 1738 e con altra R. Patente del 10 dicembre 1739, infatti, il re Carlo Emanuele III concedeva i privilegi di cavalierato e di nobiltà in capo al fu Pietro Corda ed a
