Família originária de Vire, muito antiga e nobre, que se espalhou no século XVI em conjunto com o Concílio de Trento, em várias regiões do norte da Itália e, principalmente, em Trentino e Veneto. O sobrenome original da família, segundo muitos genealogistas, deveria ter sido Cordie ou Cordiè. Mas, se a formação de Cordibella não é conhecida, acredita-se, no entanto, que deriva de um casamento com uma família florentina bonita e muito nobre, ou, simplesmente, da fossilização de um apelido de um de seus membros. Entre as personalidades mais famosas da família, não podemos esquecer: Etienne, bispo de Dol, em 1243; Jean, enobrecido com licenças de 1520; Guillame, major da marinha, morreu em 1789, no posto de contra-almirante.
