Famiglia oristanese le cui notizie risalgono al sec. XII. Era tra le più potenti famiglie del giudicato d'Arborea, i suoi membri spesso ricoprivano importanti uffici pubblici. Alla caduta del giudicato si legarono ai Cubello e un Gantino fu tra i fiduciari del marchese Leonardo. Eglie ra un uomo molto ricco e di grande abilità nella contrattazione di prestiti e di appalti che Leonardo concluse in quegli anni. In seguito, col declino del marchesato, l'importanza della famiglia venne meno, tuttavia nel corso del sec. XVI, alcuni dei suoi membri ricopersero uffici nell'amministrazione del marchesato. A partire dal 1643 la famiglia fu ammessa allo stamento militare partecipando da allora a tutti i parlamenti. Nel 1672 un Giuseppe fu vicario reale di Oristano.
