Antica ed assai nobile famiglia di Fabriano, originaria della Francia, propagatasi, nel corso dei secoli, in diverse regioni italiane ed europee. Caduta la signoria dei potenti Chiavelli, Andreuzzo Corradini, nel 1435, fu il primo gonfaloniere della città restituita a libertà. Prima di tal epoca, i membri di questa famiglia furono sempre tra i maggiorenti e, successivamente, ricoprirono tutte le più elevate cariche civiche. Il 22 luglio 1670, papa Clemente X creò conte con tutti i suoi discendenti Onofrio, per i suoi grandi meriti e per la sua profonda dottrina nelle scienze e nelle lettere. Suo fratello, quel monsignor Francesco Bernardino dottissimo, fu il vicario generale del cardinale Litta, arcivescovo di Milano in tempi assai difficili. Divenne poi vescovo di Mozzi nel regno di Napoli. Il conte Luigi, nel 1799, fu fatto colonnello dal duca Ferdinando I.
