Antigua y muy noble familia del Reino de Nápoles, de clara y ancestral virtud, originaria de Offida pero luego pasó a Abruzzo, Campania, Calabria, Puglia, Basilicata y Sicilia. El origen de este apellido, según genealogistas autorizados, debe buscarse en el pentagrama germánico "Konrad/Conrad", compuesto por "althochdeutsch kuoni" = atrevido (alemán kü hn) + "althochdeutsch rat" = consejo (alemán Rat), latinizado en "Conradus, Corradus", un nombre favorito en la Edad Media con el significado de consejero audaz. De los recuerdos familiares se desprende que un Corrado de la Marcha de Ancona abandonó su tierra natal y se refugió en Acerno, un pequeño pueblo situado en la colina de los Apeninos, donde lo acogió un obispo, pariente suyo.
