Cette famille est bien véritablement originaire de Bretagne où elle était établie depuis plusieurs siècles. On la retrouve à différentes époques, en divers localités et il y a eu nombreux personnages illustres de ce nom. On signale les personnages dignes de mémoire: Yvon, anobli par lettres du prince en 1440; Pierre, abbé de Saint-Maurice de Carnoët en 1520. Guillaume, seigneur de Lanriou, precureur du Roi à Châteauneuf-du-Faou, appelé à l'arrière ban de Cornouaille en 1636, débouté à la rèformation de 1688. Ce nom est encore mentionné aux réformation et montres de 1481 à 1562, paroisses de Coray et Trégourez, évêché de Cornouaille. On remarque (dès le XIIIème siècle) des alliances importantes avec des familles nobles en Bretagne et autres régions françaises.
