In un attestato rilasciato nel 1792 a richiesta di un Giuseppe cittadino modenese e carpigiano, il cancelliere della Comunità di Modena dichiara che la suddetta famiglia fin dal secolo XV era annoverata inter civiliores della città, che aveva contratto cospicue parentele e prodotto uomini egregi. La famiglia figura nei cataloghi delle famiglie conservatorie fin dal 1610. Il dicembre 1722 otteneva anche la cittadinanza carpigiana. Un Girolamo modenese, tesoriere generale della Cesarea Cassa Centrale domandava ed otteneva il 12 agosto 1816 di esse ascritto fra i nobili del ceto conservatorio di Modena assieme ai figli e discendenti maschi da lui, in perpetuo. Membri: Luigi, di Carlo, di Girolamo. Figli: Ferdinando, Carlo, Girolamo, Luigi. Altro ramo. Antica e nobile famiglia originaira di Modena. Inscritta nel libro d'oro moderno della nobiltà modenese. Girolamo C., valente pittore di Modena è citato con loda dal Tiraboschi.
