Se si considera l'antica nobiltà della famiglia di Roma, e Milano, ella si fà riconoscere per una delle più antiche della Region d'Italia; Si dice che hebbe origine da Valerio Console Romano, e lasciando à dietro à molti, ne dice Giovanni Tillio historico nella dedicatoria, che fa egli à Girolamo Corvino cavalier Milanese, della sua Historia degl'Imperatori Svevi. Vien l'antedetto parimente confirmato da Robberto Pisanelli, e dice anche. ch'il predetto primo Valerio, mentre combatteva à singolar battaglia con un cavalier Gallo, gli fece sovra il cimiero un Corvo, ch'affissandosi verso gl'occhi del Francese, violentemente col Becco gli tolse via un occhio, il cui soccorso cagionò la Vittoria à Valerio, e ne fù egli d'indi inanzi chiamato C., portando in ricordo di quella Vittoria sempre in tutte le guerre, ch'ei fece per cimiero un Corvo nero con un occhio in bocca, la quale insegna fù pure da' suoi posteri osservata.
