Antigua y noble familia piamontesa, originaria de la zona de Cuneo, que se ha extendido, a lo largo de los siglos, en diferentes regiones de Italia y del mundo. Según se ha transmitido, la familia podría ser de origen romano, perteneciente al linaje de los Cossa, del que se han ramificado distintas familias conocidas como Cosso, Cosseri y Cossavella.
