Ancienne et noble famille du Piémont, originaire de la région de Cuneo, qui s'est répandue, au cours des siècles, dans différentes régions italiennes et dans le monde. Selon ce qui a été transmis, la famille pourrait être d'origine romaine, appartenant à la lignée de Cossa, à partir de laquelle se sont ramifiées différentes familles connues sous le nom de Cosso, Cosseri et Cossavella.
