Oriundi di Biella, poi in Vercelli, dove già fiorivano sul principio del sec. XVI due canonici, Claudio (1517) e Antonio; quest'ultimo nobilitato coi fratelli per Patenti 20 aprile 1545. Due sec. dopo, la fam. era rappresentata dal maggiore Ignazio, morto a Vercelli ottantenne nel 1794, il cui matrimonio con Vittoria Melano di Portula, già vedova del vassallo Filippo Della Torre e madre dell' arcivescovo di Torino, Giacinto della Torre, fu cagione che i suoi discendenti assumessero anche questo cognome. Ignazio fu padre di Clemente, padre alla sua volta dell'altro Ignazio, che fu il personaggio più cospicuo della casata. Egli nacque ad Asti il 4 febbr. 1789 e morì a Torino il 26 febbr. 1872. Fu successivamente senatore di Piemonte (21 ott. 1828), decorato del titolo di presidente (20 giugno 1844), consigliere di Cassazione (2 nov. 1847).
