Famiglia anteriore al 1200. Questa antichissima famiglia pistoiese ebbe in ogni tempo alti uffici e dignità ed illustri parentadi. Spenta in un ramo della famiglia dei Sozzifanti che cambiò gli smalti dello stemma assumendo, il trinciato d'argento e di nero. Questa famiglia, che sembra prendesse il cognome da un "Sozzo di Fante", da Casore del Monte in Val di Nievole, dove aveva terre e castella, verso il 1200, quando furono distrutte le castella della campagna, discese a Pistoia, subito ottenendovi l'ascrizione all'Ordine magnatizio. Bouldrone, di Soldo, console dei soldati nel 1207 e Teberto d'Arciprete, appaiono nel 1209 tra i rappresentanti di Pistoia che giurarono la pace tra il loro comune e quello di Bologna. Messer Sozzafante fu giudice delle cause e consigliere del comune nel 1267. Ser Lapo, suo figlio, fu uno dei quattro savii incaricati della riforma degli statuti nel 1283, giudice nel 1297, e nel 1309 deputato
