Família da Calábria. Foi recebido na SMO de Malta como um quarto da família Spina de Palmi. Estava matriculado entre os Nobres em Reggio Calabria e fazia parte da primeira turma. Ele então se mudou para Palmi; ocupou posições importantes. Gaetano era prefeito; Francesco era cadete no Reg. Real Palermo e mais tarde no Real Ferdinando Batalhão. A família está registrada no Livro de Ouro da Nobreza Italiana e na Lista Nobre Oficial Italiana de 1933, com o título de Nobre (masculino e feminino) em virtude do Decreto Ministerial de Reconhecimento, em 8 de novembro de 1925, na pessoa de: Filomeno, de Gaetano, nascido 1838, def. 25 de outubro de 1925, casado com Caterina Putrino.
