The exact period of settlement in North America has not been definitely determined but Information extracted from Public and Civil registry archive's confirm that one of the first settlers was a certain 'Reverand John Cotton', he was Vicar of the Church of St Randolph 1612-1633, letters missive were issued against him from the High Commision Court when he began to break away from the main body of the Church, and friends. Being unable to help him, advised him to emigrate to New England. In 1633 he embarked on the ship named the 'Griffin' and arrived in Boston, New England, on the 3rd of september the same year with the 'Reverand Thomas Hooker' and the 'Reverand Samuel Stone', and about two hundred other passengers. Today, 'Cotton' is the '924th' most common surname in North America.
