Antigua y noble familia francesa, de clara y ancestral virtud, que se ha extendido por todo el mundo, a lo largo de los siglos. Según se ha transmitido, esta familia es originaria del departamento de Finistère de Bretaña, en el noroeste de Francia. Esta familia pudo elevar su estatus social gracias a la habilidad que tenían en el manejo de las tierras agrícolas en su posesión. En efecto, uno de los primeros Coulogniers de los que tenemos noticias es un tal Yves, nacido hacia 1550, que administraba y gestionaba sus propias tierras agrícolas en Landivisiau (Finisterre). Aunque por la acción malévola de la época se ha perdido el diploma de nobleza de la familia, su condición aristocrática se deduce fácilmente de los documentos que obran en nuestro poder. En primer lugar, son ilustres sus exponentes, de los que en breve informaremos en parte; igualmente valiosas son las alianzas matrimoniales contraídas
