La antigua familia siciliana, cuyos orígenes se remontan a una noble prosapia catalana, emigró a Sicilia con un Palascino Crapanzano, caballero bajo el rey Manfredi (1250-1266). Disfrutaba de la nobleza en Catania, Salemi y Trapani, donde poseía la Salina di Reda y el feudo Fontanacoperta, y se jacta de estar entre los fundadores de la noble compañía de los blancos de esa ciudad. Bajo el rey Carlos de Anjou (1266-1285), recordamos a Antonio Crapanzano, quien se convirtió en gobernador de Terranova, y Guglielmo, quien era un castellano de Marsala. Por otro lado, al difundir el prestigio, esta familia siempre ha logrado producir una serie de hombres que se hicieron famosos, en empleos públicos, en profesiones liberales y eclesiásticas y en el servicio militar.
