Famille sicilienne très ancienne, dont les origines sont liées à une noble prosapia catalane, qui a émigré en Sicile avec un Palascino Crapanzano, chevalier sous le roi Manfredi (1250-1266). Il jouissait de la noblesse à Catane, Salemi et Trapani, où il possédait la saline de Reda et le fief de Fontanacoperta, et se vantait d'être parmi les fondateurs de la noble compagnie des Blancs de cette ville. Sous le roi Charles d'Anjou (1266-1285), on se souvient d'Antonio Crapanzano, devenu gouverneur de Terranova, et de Guglielmo, châtelain de Marsala. D'autre part, cette famille, au fil des décennies, a toujours réussi à produire une série d'hommes qui ont fait sa renommée, dans les emplois publics, dans les professions libérales et ecclésiastiques et dans le service militaire.
