Antica ed assai nobile famiglia italiana, originaria dalla città di Cremona, da donde primieramente passò a Pavia per poi stabilirsi in Modena ed infine diramare in tutta la Penisola. Conosciuta come Cremona o Cremone vuolsi si sia da essa originata anche la nobile famiglia Cremoni di Livorno. In ogni modo, questa casata ebbe residenza a Modena tra il XIII ed il XIV secolo. Da Modena poi la famiglia si trasferì a Reggio Emilia nel secolo XV, con Bartolomeo, di Giacomo, di Albertino. Non è accertata l'epoca e il documento della concessone del titolo di nobiltà, di cui era già investita prima del secolo XV, e che le venne dai Duchi di Ferrara, Modena e Reggio, per valore delle armi. Bartolomeo, di Giacomo, di Albertino, fu investito di un feudo in territorio di Rubiera nel 1478. Guglielmo, noto nel 1491, fu parimenti valoroso armigero del Duca di Ferrara. Nei secoli XIV
