Ancient Emilian family, of clear and ancestral virtue, which has spread over the centuries in various regions of Italy and, mainly, in Veneto and Lombardy. The origin of this cognomination, according to authoritative genealogists, should be sought in a contracted form of the medieval name "Garipaldus", probably belonging to a, today unknown, progenitor. The first traces of this surname are found in the registry of the church Santa Maria Assunta of Adria (RO) where in some documents dating back to around 1264 the births of the first Crepaldo are recorded. In any case, according to what is handed down to us, this family was admitted to the honors of the knighthood, following the participation, characterized by courage and virtue, in 1509, of a Niccolò, under the banner of Este, in the famous battle event of the Battle of Polesella, in which the land army, under the direct supervision of Alfonso
