Antica ed illustre famiglia, originaria di Ragusa. Essa succedette, nel titolo di barone di Corallo, alla famiglia Occhipinti, che ne aveva ottenuto privilegio in persona di un Giuseppe a 3 ottobre 1759. Sul cominciare del secolo XIX un ramo fu trapiantato in Comiso da Paolo Criscione Castello in occasione del suo matrimonio con la baronessa Giovanna Occhipinti. Isidoro Criscione e Occhipinti, nato in Cosimo il 6 aprile 1821, dec. ivi a 9 marzo 1899, cavaliere mauriziano e della Corona d'Italia, consigliere e deputato provinciale, sindaco di Cosimo, ottenne, con R.D. 21 luglio 1872 susseguito da RR. LL. PP. del 6 novembre dello stesso anno, conferma del detto titolo di barone di Corallo. Fu padre di Francesco Saverio Criscione e Melfi, il quale è, a sua volta, padre di Carmela, Isidoro, Caterina e Michele.

Partito, al primo troncato: a) d'oro, al leone di rosso, tenente con le zampe anteriori un ramo di crescione al naturale in palo, b) fasciato d'azzurro e d'oro, i pezzi d'azzurro cadauno a tre stelle d'argento, di 5 raggi, ordinate in fascia; al secondo d'argento a tre scaglioni, il secondo sormontato da una crocetta, il tutto di rosso.
