La familia tenía su cuna en Umbría y en tiempos remotos disfrutaba del señorío de Bettona, confirmado a los descendientes de Crispolto di Pietro por el Papa Nicolò V (1448). Ugolino fue pretor de Florencia (1309); Faustino di Pirotto fue coronel al servicio de la república de Siena en el año 1572; Cesare de la Congregación del Oratorio, fue el autor de la obra Perusia Augusta.
