A família teve seu berço na Úmbria e em tempos remotos desfrutou o senhorio de Bettona, confirmado aos descendentes de Crispolto di Pietro pelo papa Nicolò V (1448). Ugolino foi o pretor de Florença (1309); Faustino di Pirotto foi coronel a serviço da república de Siena no ano de 1572; Cesare, da Congregação Oratória, foi o autor da obra Perusia Augusta. Tullio foi cânone da catedral de Rieti e autor de numerosos escritos sagrados. Outro Tullio foi pelo Urban VII eleito auditor geral das armas pontificas. Francisco distinguiu-se na batalha de 1673 dirigida pelo Baly de Malta, Conde de Arcourt, nas águas de Rodes, para o comboio de Alexandria.
