Famiglia originaria di Varese, dove aveva sepolcro gentilizio nella Chiesa del convento dei Minori riformati di S. Maria Annunciata. Altro avello, col patronato di una cappella, i De C. tenevano nel convento di S. Antonio de Francescani in Binago presso Appiano. Luigi Maria (n. 1755-1816) col fratello Carlo Francesco fu dichiarato nobile con diploma imperiale 1 maggio 1793 e con sovrana risoluzione 19 novembre 1816 veniva confermato nella nobiltà. De' suoi figli Vitaliano (1795-1846) col fratello Luigi ed il cugino Giambattista eresse la galleria omonima inaugurata nel 1832, Luigi (1798-1862) fu presidente del R. Istituto Lombardo di Scienze, Lettere e Arti e Giuseppe (1803-1837) fu promotore del museo Civico di Storia Naturale. Giambattista (1785-1838), letterato, seguace ed amico del Manzoni e del Grossi, nato da Carlo Francesco, ebbe numerosi figli, tra i quali son degni di ricordo Carlo (1824-1859), patriota insigne, che pugnò arditamente sulle barricate milanesi nel 1848, si
