Very ancient Milanese family, called Crivelli or Crivello, professing the Salic law, as evidenced by an act of 1135. The historian Giorgio Giulini states that, already in the thirteenth century, this family was considered the most powerful Milanese family. But the universally recognized progenitor, from whom the documented genealogy starts, is a Uberto (1037), who was a mincer of another Uberto (1187), archbishop of Milan and elevated to the supreme pontificate in 1185, with the name of Urban VIII. The extinct lines of C. di Nerviano, C. della Croce, C. conti di Dorno and Lomello, C. di Magenta, Cuggiono, Mercallo and Castellanza, descend from the brother of Pope Urban VIII, as well as the three surviving lines of the C. marquises of Agliate, of the C.
