Familia milanesa muy antigua, llamada Crivelli o Crivello, profesando la ley Salic, como lo demuestra un acto de 1135. El historiador Giorgio Giulini afirma que, ya en el siglo XIII, esta familia era considerada la familia milanesa más poderosa. Pero el progenitor universalmente reconocido, de quien parte la genealogía documentada, es un Uberto (1037), quien fue picador de otro Uberto (1187), arzobispo de Milán y elevado al pontificado supremo en 1185, con el nombre de Urbano VIII. Las líneas extintas de C. di Nerviano, C. della Croce, C. conti di Dorno y Lomello, C. di Magenta, Cuggiono, Mercallo y Castellanza, descienden del hermano del papa Urbano VIII, así como de los tres líneas sobrevivientes de los C. marqueses de Agliate, de los C.
