Famiglia originaria dalla Spagna, passata in Sardegna sul finire del XV secolo, di antica e nobile tradizione, propagatasi, nel corso dei secoli, in diverse regioni d'Italia. La cognominizzazione originale, Crobed o Crobet, in quella babele di anime esasperate, di voci diverse, in cui la madre lingua latina si frammischiava coi barbarismi dialettali e irrobustiva, nel tempo stesso, il dolce idioma italiano, il cognome usciva variamente allungato e storpiato, conforme la fonetica di chi lo pronunciava, e, attraverso forme diverse, giunse fino a noi in tal modo descritto. Ascritti alla nobiltà di Spagna fin dal XI secolo, lo scudo di questa casata fu al seguito di Alfonso I d'Aragona "El Batallador" durante il concilio di Palencia ed in altre vicende nazionali spagnole dal 1109 al 1126.
