Antichissima ed assai potente famiglia, con dimora in Milano, che trasse il proprio nome dal fatto di essere stata la prima a piantare la bandiera dei crociati sulle mura di Gerusalemme. Ebbe il feudo di Cassino con titolo marchionale nel 1676, quello di Venzaghello nel 1688, e quello di Magnago nel 1652. Andrea Crocicchia, dell'Ordine dei Gesuati, venne innalzato sugli altari col titolo di Beato. Bernardino Crocicchia fu Vescovo di Casale-Monferrato nel 1546. Inoltre la presenza del motto nella bibliografia documentata della famiglia, ci conferma l'avita nobiltà raggiunta della casata. Infatti l'origine del motto risale a circa il XIV secolo e deve essere ricercata in quei detti arguti che venivano scritti sui vessilli o bandiere dei cavalieri, esposti alle finestre delle locande in cui questi alloggiavano, in occasione dei tornei, e durante i tornei stessi. Il motto era un pensiero espresso in poche parole facente allusione a un sentimento palese
