Este apellido es francés, y lo trajo a España Jacques de C., Señor de Ferrières y Capitán de los arqueros de la guardia de Felipe II, que se tituló Marqués de Falces, Conde de Santisteban de Lerín y Gran Mariscal de Navarra por su matrimonio con doña Ana María de Peralta y Velasco, por su propio derecho, quinta marquesa de Falces, séptima Condesa de Santisteban de Lerín. Hijo de ambos fué Diego Antonio Felicio de C. Peralta y Velasco, sexto Marqués de Falces y octavo Conde de Santisteban de Lerín, y casó dos veces: la primera, con doña María de Mendoza, séptima Marquesa de Mondéjar y de Valhermoso y novena Condesa de Tendilla, y la segunda, con doña Melchora Bárbara de Viana y Villaquirán. De ninguno de estos matrimonios tuvo sucesión, dejando un hijo bastardo, que se llamó Miguel Antonio de C. Peralta, que fué Prior de Falces. El linaje C. entroncó también con los Marqueses de Ariza y Condes de Priego.
