Questo casato è un ramo collaterale della famiglia dei giudici d'Arborea, che discendeva da Niccolò di Bas, fratello del giudice Mariano IV. Suo figlio Salvatore sposò Costanza Cubeddu e Leonardo, loro figlio, prese a chiamarsi con il cognome materno. Nel 1410 Leonardo trattò con il viceré Pietro Torellò le condizioni di resa del giudicato d'Arborea, ottenendo l'investitura feudale di Oristano con il titolo di marchese e del Goceano con il titolo di conte. Negli anni successivi mantenne un rapporto di leale dipendenza dai re d'Aragona ai quali prestò ingenti somme di denaro, ottenendone favori e in pegno il Parte Barigadu e altre terre. Acquistata la signoria dell'incontrada di Marmilla e quella di parte Valenza, divenne il più potente signore feudale del suo tempo. Alla morte di suo figlio Salvatore, nel 1470, il patrimonio feudale della famiglia passò a Leonardo Alagon, nato dal matrimonio di Remedia, sorella di Salvatore, con Artale
