Antigua y noble familia originaria de Cataluña. Por referencias de historiadores de la época y otras averiguadas por Araldis en los archivos registrales de ciudades y otros privados, podríamos afirmar, pero no asegurar, que este escudo u otro muy similar a él, apareció inicialmente desde el siglo XI al XIV, particularmente en la repoblación de Tarragona realizada por Ramón Berenguer III y culminada por San Olegario y el caballero normando Robert Bordet a principios del siglo XII. Las referencias de esta familia parecen precisarse con más frecuencia desde el siglo XV al XIX en especial los hechos de la lucha sindical consecuente a la revolución industrial del siglo XIX, especialmente con la instalación del telar a vapor. Todo ello parece coincidir con la memoria familiar de algunos de los miembros de la rama de la familia Cumbis. El estudio del escudo heráldico familiar nos "habla" de quienes formaron el origen
