Antica ed assai nobile famiglia di origine spagnola, di chiara ed avita virtù, passata a risiedere in Sicilia, con un Fabrizio che ottenne, sotto il governo Aragonese, eminentissimi uffici. Nel 1393, il casato ottenne la signoria del feudo di Bonalbergo, in Nicosia, con titolo Baronale. Successivamente, la famiglia si divise in tre rami: quello di Malta, quello di Reggio-Calabria e quello di S. Agata dei Goti, da dove provenne quello stabilitosi in Milazzo e che fu elevato alla nobiltà messinese il 31 Agosto 1813. D’altronde, tal famiglia, nel dispiegarsi dei lustri, sempre è riuscita a produrre una serie di uomini che hanno reso illustre il suo nome, nei pubblici impieghi, nelle professioni liberali ed ecclesiastiche e nel servizio militare. Fra questi, senza nulla levar al valore degli omessi, contasi: Raimondo segretario del duca Martino e protonotario del regno di Sicilia; Gioacchino, che fu giudice delle appellazioni di Messina, nel 1695, e
