Pare che questa famiglia antica e nobile in Lugo tragga la sua origine dalla Toscana e che dallo stesso ceppo sian derivati quei Ricci che dimoravano in Ferrara, ove erano conosciuti fin dal 1318, Ottolino e Guizzardino De Ricci e più tardi Marcantonio, vivente nel 1578, medico insigne e professore dell'Università di Ferrara; Giovanni Battista, che fu in Ferrara consigliere del secondo ordine. La stessa carica coprirono Francesco (1655), Girolamo (1644), Camillo (1691), Giuseppe (1745), Giacomo (1703), Girolamo (1793). Altro Giovanni Battista, illustre dottore di leggi, viveva in Ferrara nel 1650. Il ramo trasferitosi in Lugo ebbe origine da Tommaso, che fondò nel 1747 il Beneficio Parrocchiale in Villa Canalripato in Lugo, del quale ancora oggi è rimasto nella famiglia il giuspatronato. A questo appartenne il celebre letterato Bartolomeo, figlio di Melchiorre (1569), che sposò Clara Ravani, dalla quale ebbe Camillo, buon pittore, morto nel 1618. Le vecchie cronache lughesi
