Famiglia, assai antica e nobile, originaria di Amalfi, che prese il nome di Curiale, e poi di Correale, dalle cariche sostenute. Se ne hanno le prime memorie in un Ligorio e in un Sergio che, nel 1268, prestarono denari a Carlo I d'Angiò. Ebbe nobiltà in Napoli al seggio di Porto, in S. Severino, in Agropoli e in Salerno. Due dei rami principali fiorirono in Sorrento, l'uno ascritto al Seggio di Porto, l'altro in Salerno, ove venne aggregato al seggio di Portaretese. Ebbe la signoria di 25 Baronie, della Contea di Terranova e del Marchesato di Gerace. Dette alla Chiesa quattro Vescovi; molti furono maestri razionali, giudici e giustizieri; Bartolomeo, capitano generale a guerra del ducato di Amalfi nel 1442; Marino, cameriere maggiore e consigliere di Alfonso I e castellano di Massalubrense, Bitonto, Ferolito e Vico Equense; Casimiro, Cassinese, versatissimo nelle lingue orientali e autore del "Lexicon Hebraico Chaldeo Biblicum",
