Assai nobile ed illustre famiglia di Amalfi, anticamente detta "Curriale", le cui prime memorie certe si rinvengono nel XIII secolo, ovvero quando i membri della famiglia, già Correale, risultano quali nobili in Napoli, al seggio di Porto; in Salerno al seggio di Portaretese ed in Sorrento. Il ramo di Salerno si portó in Sanseverino nel 1381 e se ne trovano notizie nei Registri di concessione fatte dal principe di Salerno, dall'anno 1517 al 1540, registri che si conservano nel R. Archivio di Napoli. Appartenne al ramo di Salerno il capitano Matteo (nato in Salerno 23 dicembre 1766 def. 10 aprile 1836) decorato del titolo di barone da Re Gioacchino Murat a 7 settembre 1814; ed il capitano di vacello Giuseppe, nato in Salerno il 24 gennaio 1770, decorato anche del titolo di barone dal Re Murat il 1° gennaio 1811.
