Famiglia di origine vicentina che trasse il nome dal castello di Custoza, anticamente Custodia, de Custodia e Costoza, castello posto alle falde di un colle presso il fiume Bachilione. Nel 1583 fu ascritta fra i nobili del Consiglio di Vicenza; nel sec. XVII un ramo si stabilì in Mantova. Angelo nel 1688 fu consigliere d'onore dell'imperatrice Eleonora e coppiere dell'imperatore Leopoldo che con privilegio del 20 giugno 1688 conferì alla famiglia la nobiltà imperiale e con diploma di Ferdinando Carlo Gonzaga, duca di Mantova, le veniva concesso il titolo comitale con successione primogeniale mascolina, confermato con sovr. risoluz. del 21 novembre 1816. E' iscritta nell'Elenco Nob. Uff. in persona di: Ramo primogenito, col titolo di conte (mpr.). Camillo, di Angelo, di Camillo. Ignazio, di Arrigo, di Camillo, coi figli: Virginio, Elisa e Leopolda.
