Noblesse de robe de la Marche, remontant à 1515, éteinte au XIXème siècle et qu'il ne faut pas confondre avec les de Fournoux, seigneurs de Lachaze, haute bourgeoisie, de la même province. Parmi les personnages les plus marquants de cette maison on signale Joseph, fils d'Abdon-René Couturier seigneur de Fournouë, de Forges, de Soumande, procureur du roi en la sénéchaussée de Guéret et de Éléonore Garreau. Docteur en théologie, prieur de Nouziers (1733), abbé commendataire de Pébrac (1734) et par suite chanoine-comte honoraire du chapitre de Brioude (1735), il devint grand vicaire de l'évêque de Limoges, puis de celui du Mans (1743), archidiacre de Tarbes, et prieur commandataire de St-Pierre-du Vallon au diocèse du Mans.
