Família siciliana antiga e ilustre, conhecida desde o século XII, decorada com os títulos de nobre de Messina, marquês de Calvello, nobres da Sicília e que viviam em Messina, Milazzo e Catania. Segundo a tradição, o progenitor dessa família deve ser encontrado naquele conde Amico d'Amico, primeiro aliado dos normandos para expulsar os sarracenos e depois, com outros barões, conspirando contra o duque Roberto il Guiscardo, porque se ofenderam por não se preocuparem com a parte tomada na conquista da ilha. De qualquer forma, entre os personagens que o tornaram mais famoso, lembramos: um Roger, carrasco da Sicília e Calábria em 1239; um Nicoberto, cavaleiro de Milazzo em 1283; um Giacomo, tesoureiro geral do reino da Sicília em 14523; um Antonio que, com privilégio de R., de 5 de março a 14 de dezembro de 1574, obteve o título de cavaleiro real; um Vito, barão de Grano, que, com privilégio
