Cette ancienne famille est originaire de Languedoc. Monseigneur Joseph, né à Perpignan , en 1736, était fils du premier Président du Conseil souverain du Roussillon. C'est le 37ème pontife qui, depuis Raymond d'Aspremont- de- Roquecorne, nommé en 1317 par le pape Jean XXIII, a occupé le siège épiscopal de Sarlat. Cet évêché, supprimé par le Concordat de 1801, fut réuni à celui d'Angoulême. Il est raconté qu'à la Révolution de 1739, Monseigneur Joseph partit pour Paris, où il eût infailliblement péri dans le massacre d'alors, si un Sarladias, en grand crédit aux Jacobins, se rappelant le bien que cet évêque avait fait à sa ville natale, ne l'eût arraché à une mort certaine. Retiré en Piemont, berceau de sa famille, Monseigneur Joseph mourut à Turin, le 22 mai 1800. Extraction chevaleresque ( famille d’ancienne extraction réunissant, en outre, deux qualités: atteindre le XIVème siècle et y avoir létat de chevalerie qui est, entre autres traits, un état militaire, rappelons-le) 1287, capitoul de Toulouse 1770.
