Visse con molta chiarezza di nobiltà e ricchezze, la famiglia D'auria nei tempi antichi in Sicilia, tanto che Manfredo D'auria fu Signor della Terra di Calatabiano, e d'altri grossi feudi. Pietro, Giovanni, ed Ottobuono D'auria fiorirono sotto il Re Federico secondo nel 1300. Dal qual Re Ottobuono ebbe la Terra di Castronuovo, il territorio di Rieni, e il molino dei Baroni nel territorio di detta Terra, i quali lasciò, poscia, egli ad Antonio suo figlio secondogenito. Costui anche ne fece donazione a Nicolò Morello, suo fratello Uterino. Corrado, fu grand-Almirante. Da Ottobuono nacque, primo del predetto Antonio, Emanuele che fu gran cavaliere, costui ebbe dal Re Pietro secondo Castellamare del Golfo, il feudo di Calatubi, e l'Isola di Pantagia, che nelle ribellioni del Re Federico terzo, l'ebbe Guglielmo Peralta, e il figlio Ottobuono ebbe l'ufficio della Miraglia del Regno, dal Re Ludovico, nel 1343.
