Antigua y muy noble familia del sur de Italia, llamada Maio, Di Maio o DE MAYO, presente en el territorio del Reino de Nápoles, desde los tiempos de la dominación angevina. El primero de sus personajes, del cual hay algunas noticias, es un Matthew, quien fue creado por el Rey de Sicilia como un Caballero, parece que en 1272, y que se convirtió en Tesorero de los Abruzos, en 1294. Muchos componentes, de tal familia, que Eran capitanes o gobernadores en nombre de los angevinos.
