Ancient and noble family from Lombardy, of clear and ancestral virtue, that has worldwide spread, over the centuries. According to some heraldic reconstructions, the family descends from the Marquises Ghini, a noble family from Siena of which there are records already in the early thirteenth century, when Angelo Ghini was ambassador to Urban IV and Martin was appointed Rector of Cassino, in 1286; Ghino, brave captain, lived in 1326; Negro was a Knight of St. Giovanni and died in Rhodes in 1330. When the Ghini family tried to have the Lordship of Volterra but was defeated by the family Pannocchieschi, so powerful in Siena, many of its members, in 1430, left Siena to take refuge in Romagna and Lombardy.
