Da una linea della famiglia cortonese dei Tommasi, che deriva dal ramo di Francesco, di Angiolo, e precisamente dalla linea di Sebastiano, di Francesco, discese Luca, di Luigi, che sposò il 6 maggio 1815, Luisa, di Girolamo Aliotti, ultima di questa antica e nobile famiglia aretina, ascritta a quel patriziato fin dal 1755; e per ciò i figli nati da tale matrimonio, Luigi, Carlo e Francesco, hanno aggiunto al proprio cognome quello della famiglia materna inquartandone lo stemma. Altro ramo. La famiglia trae origini dai Visdomini di Firenze ed ebbe diramazioni in Sicilia, a Prato, Arezzo, Bologna e Parma. Ser Medico del Medico fu cinque volte priore. Dal 1297 al 1317 vi fu un gonfaloniere. S. M. Vittorio Emanuele II concesse nel 1867 al barone (mpr) ad Antonio di Giuseppe. Carlo fu ministro plenipotenziario al Giappone. Nicolo, di Nicolò, fu onorato con breve pontificio di SS. Leone XIII (1880)
