Former noble family established in Poitou and Limousin. Eon, ennobled by the duke in 1426. The knights of this family took part, in the period of eleven centuries during which Poitou was governed by sovereign princes, in the wars with France and England. The Breton military forces consisted principally of his knighthood, to which were joined a few men of foot raised in the parishes; but after each campaign, all returned to their homes until a new convocation or next ban. Several knights of this family were 'bannerets', that is to say knights possessing a castellany, and powerful enough to maintain at their own expense a company composed of other men-at-arms and their suite forming a workforce of at least twenty-five horses.
