Antigua e ilustre familia siciliana, de raíces francesas, de clara y ancestral virtud, que se ha extendido por todo el mundo, a lo largo de los siglos. Según se ha transmitido, la familia Danto desciende de una Casa noble francesa: los Danthon de Limousin. De hecho, cuenta la leyenda que un caballero francés de esta familia se mudó a Sicilia durante el reinado angevino. El apellido actual sería, por tanto, una italianización del Danthon original; modificación también atribuible a la posterior dominación española del reino de Sicilia y por tanto al deseo de mitigar el origen francés de la familia. En cualquier caso, la familia Danto parece ser de notable extracción en Sicilia y dividida en dos ramas principales: una con residencia en Acireale, la otra con residencia en Siracusa.
