Antiga e ilustre família siciliana, de raízes francesas, de clara e ancestral virtude, que se difundiu mundialmente, ao longo dos séculos. De acordo com o que foi transmitido, a família Danto descende de uma casa nobre francesa: o Danthon de Limousin. De fato, a lenda diz que um cavaleiro francês desta família se mudou para a Sicília durante o reinado de Angevin. O sobrenome atual seria, portanto, uma italianização do Danthon original; modificação também atribuível à posterior dominação espanhola do reino da Sicília e, portanto, ao desejo de mitigar a origem francesa da família.
