Cette famille possédait, en 1400, la seigneurie d'Augeard, en Anjou, mais les guerres de Religion l'obligèrent de s'expatrier. Jean est le premier qui vint s'établir, vers 1460, près di Sadillac, canton d'Eymet, en Périgord. De 1670 à 1770, les d'Augeard comptaient six présidents à mortier du Parlement de Bordeaux. C'est à messire Jean-Charles, chevalier, seigneur de Tiregan, Clérans et autres places, président à mortier au Parlement de Bordeaux, que Puynesge dédia les Status des coutumes de Bordeaux. La famille a été maintenue dans sa noblesse par jugement de Pellot, intendant de Guienne, du 28 octobre 1666, et parmi les votants, en 1789, pour les Députés de la Noblesse, on voit ainsi inscrit: Messire Jacques-Armand, chevalier, seigneur baron de Virazel, marquis du Pouy, seigneur de Chancère et autres lieux.
